Fordingbridge Events Group today announces the launch of Fordingbridge Culture Week – a celebration of all things culture comprising a range of community arts projects, which will take place at several venues in and around Fordingbridge from 29th May until the 7th June 2019.
Activities will include:
- Performances by Fordingbridge Players
- Film screenings at The Regal
- A whole host of events at Fordingbridge Library
- An art exhibition and workshop from local artist Angela Corben
- A kids’ illustration workshop with local artist Selina Snow
- An open mic night
- Craft workshops
- A comedy night
- Live music
- Historical town tours
- Storyville – an exhibition of stories
- Recreation of Constable’s The Hay Wain in the river
Nicky Jenkins, Chair of Fordingbridge Events Group, says: “We have a plethora of talented groups and individuals in and around our town and we thought it would be good to come together to work on this project. The Culture Week is partly in half term and partly during school term time, and we wanted there to be a range of activities to suit everyone.
“We are thrilled that everyone has got on board with this and in particular that the local schools are involved. We have reached out to those we know but if there are any other talented artists, writers, filmmakers or musicians interested in getting involved, we would love to hear from you.
“It wouldn’t feel right to do an event in Fordingbridge and not get our local heavy horses Belle and Bresil involved, so on the Saturday morning we are doing our own re-enactment of Constable’s The Hay Wain in the river near the recreation ground from 11-11.30am. We will be running a spot the difference competition, which is open to all.”
Most events during Culture Week are free but some do require booking, so we recommend checking the website for availability and booking details. More information about the different events taking place can be found here.
Fordingbridge Festival – save the date!
Plans are also in progress for the Fordingbridge Festival, which will run from 10.30-5pm at the Fordingbridge Rec on the 20th of July 2019.
Nicky says: “The one-day event is already looking terrific with stands and entertainment being booked and scheduled into the day’s activities. After last’s year’s resurgence, we already have people booked in who had such a good day in 2018. We are hoping to grow the festival this year, but plans are for more of the same, as it went down so well last year!”
Corporate sponsors on board for the festival so far are:
- PDQ Airspares
- Pennyfarthing Homes
- Elliotts
- Hearts at Homecare
